Hinweis: Rayon ist eine künstlich hergestellte Faser und wird in der Welt der Stoffe auch als Viskose bezeichnet. Zur Herstellung von Rayon werden Chemiefasern auf Cellulosebasis verwendet. Anders als Synthetikfasern wird Rayon aus dem nachwachsenden Rohstoff Holz gefertigt. Dies bedingt eine biologische Abbaubarkeit entsprechender Fasern. Im Vergleich zur Herstellung von Baumwolle fordert das Fertigungsverfahren von Rayon schließlich einen geringeren Einsatz von Wasser und Energie.
